“Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination, and life to everything.”
― Plato

A restaurant was first established at this location in the 1950's as Steve's Restaurant and was owned by James and Catherine Stephenson.  Upon the death of James Stephenson, Catherine operated the restaurant for several years, and her specialty was a memorable fried chicken and potato salad dinner.  Catherine's daughter, Karen Shields and her husband, Kermit, later managed the restaurant.

Having been raised in the community and committed to investing in the neighborhood, Stephen Williams purchased the property, as well as John Kirby's childhood home next door, in 2005, with the intention of revitalizing the North Kent Street corridor.

Stephen's Jazz Cafe brings history alive!  Located in the North End of town, next door to what was the home of the late local Jazz great, John Kirby.  We are an intimate, eclectic and unique venue, with carefully planned food, and a friendly staff.

Featuring local talent as well as well-known artists, we offer live music every Friday and Saturday night. At Stephen's Jazz Cafe, we invite you to come and relax, listen to great music, enjoy delicious food and a couple of drinks with your friends or colleagues.
